Starting from a simple “lights out” event in 2007, Earth Hour has grown into a global movement across 17,900 landmarks in 188 countries. This movement has united millions to take action on climate change through a simple act of solidarity – switching lights off for an hour. Today as we celebrate the world’s largest grassroots movement, we have listed down some of Discovery Suites’ efforts in #ChangingTheEnding that goes beyond the hour.
1. Conserving Resources
We encourage people to conserve electricity. Our rooms are utilized with energy saving features that are activated by simply removing the keycard at the slot by the main door. This also ensures that everything is turned off whenever guests leave their room.
2. Saving Water
We give our guests the liberty to reuse towels and bed linens. To save up on water, guests could simply hang their towels on the rack to signify that they would want to reuse it. Towels thrown in the bathtub will only be the ones replaced.
3. Smoke-Free
We follow a strict smoke-free policy in all of our guest rooms. However, we have allocated a designated smoking area in the building.
4. No Straw Commitment
In an effort to address water pollution and marine life depletion, the hotel has stopped offering plastic straws in all food and beverage outlets, and banquet events since June 2018. Metal straws are provided for special beverages such as shakes and smoothies.
5. Sustainability Movement
To support this cause, Discovery Suites has integrated special vegan selections in their menu such as Vegan Burgers and Vegan Sausage. Additionally, the hotel also ensures that all seafood supplies come from sustainable sources.
These simple actions may seem small but together they make a big impact on preserving Planet Earth so join us this March 28 for #EarthHour2020! Switch your lights off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM and let us once again commemorate Mother Nature.
