Preparing for the Holiday Binge

Preparing for the Holiday Binge

It’s September and Christmas is just around the corner. That means a whole lot of eating at Christmas parties and family gatherings. The challenge to stay fit and healthy gets harder from here, but we’ve come this far and we’re up for it. Here are some tips that will help you get through the holidays without gaining all the pounds you’ve worked hard to lose all year.

Don’t skip the gym

An hour or two at the gym will help you keep the guilt at a minimum. If you’ve been doing it all year, then it should be easy. Find a gym buddy and keep each other motivated to workout, or join a fun fitness class like yoga or Zumba. There’s a lot of ways to make working out worth looking forward to. That way, you wouldn’t want to skip the gym.

Schedule your cheat days

Let’s face it. The holidays bring about the best delicacies and biggest feasts, and they are impossible to resist. It’s okay to cut yourself some slack and enjoy the flavors of Christmas, as long as you take it one cheat day at a time.

Talk more, eat less

The best thing about the holidays is reuniting with some friends and relatives you haven’t seen in ages. You will have a lot of catching up to do, and that’s a good thing. Instead of stuffing your belly in just minutes, take it slow as you chat with the people around the table. You’ll be surprised how full you’d feel right before you go for that second plate.

Take a little of everything

Holiday spreads can be the most beautiful thing, where everything makes your mouth water just from looking or smelling. You don’t have to deprive yourself. Just take a little of every dish so you don’t miss anything, and still have enough space and guilt to spare for dessert.
